Pottalpudur Dargah

Built in latter half of 17th century, Pottalpudur Dargah is located at Pottalpudur in Tirunelveli. Designed in Hindu temple pattern, the dargah is attracted by Muslims, Hindus and Christians. The custom is similar to that of Hindus. The holy ashes from tamarind bark, ghee, and flowers called nercha are distributed to the devotees. Sheep and fowls are sacrificed here. People also offer fruits for the worship.

During the time of the kanthuri festival, sandal paste is prepared in a pot and is sent to the Hindu village of Ravanasamudram, from where it is brought back to this dargah with great pomp. After offering this to the deity, the paste is then distributed to the devotees.

This Dargah is considered as a pious and a sacred one equal to that of Nagore Dargah.
