Pondicherry University was established in 1985 and is located at Kalapet in
Pondicherry District.
A Central University, it has on-campus teaching and research in postgraduate level. Around 32 colleges are affiliated to its. The university has established various schools and centers/units. It has a Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) with modular/unitized courses. Courses are also offered through the Directorate of Distance Education.
