Pondicherry Museum is situated near the
Government Park in
Pondicherry Town. The main attraction is the central space with 3 curious transport mechanisms-a coach, a palanquin (sedan chair) and a pousse-pousse that requires two attendants.
The museum displays archeological remains such as remnants of Greek and Roman jars, pieces from the Tsung periods in China and the precious stones dug out from the
Arikamedhu. Bronze images of god and goddess, handicrafts, art and a wide collection of temple lamps are also here.
Some specimens of Pallava and Chola art from
Pondicherry and
Karaikal are exhibited in the sculpture gallery.
