Pith Craft is a traditional craft of
Assam. Practiced by the Malakar or Bhuimali communities, it is famous as the handicraft work of Agamani in
Dhubri District. Pith Craft is known by different names such as Shola Pith and Kuhila Pith.
This craft looks like paper doll, thermocol doll or ivory sculpture. The particular variety of pith used for this craft is 'shola' or 'kuhila' (Indian Cork), a very light weight sponge-wood growing wild in marshy waterlogged areas.
This very old form of art has been taken as a profession by many families residing at Agamani. This beautiful handmade craft depicts international artifact as well as Indian artifact, Hindu God and Goddess and others.
