Pawaya Temple is an ancient temple situated at
Pawaya, which is 68 km from
Gwalior in
Madhya Pradesh.
It is the best preserved among the earlier temples that has been excavated from the region. The temple belongs to the terraced brick-temples of the Gupta period and has a solid structure. The shrine is placed on the uppermost terrace, which is approached by steps. The temple consists of three terraces, of which the upper two terraces are decorated with ornate pilasters surmounted by a frieze of chaitya-dormers.
The Parmars Fort and the Dhoomeshwar Mahadev Temple are the other main attractions of Pawaya.
