Pattumala, or Hill draped in silk, is situated about 17 km east of
Peermade, in
Idukki District of
Kerala. The place is famous for its tea factories and plantations. Major plantation groups such as Harrisons Malayalam and A V Thomas and Co. have tea plantations at Pattumala.
With its lofty peaks, little streams, sylvan surroundings, green expanse of the tea plantations and an ever-pervading air of serenity, Pattumala is a much sought after destination for both pilgrims and nature lovers. Situated on top of a hill is the Velankanni Matha Church, a famous pilgrim center, which is built entirely of granite.
