Parasnath Hill, a prominent Jain pilgrimage spot, is the highest mountain to the south of the
Himalayas. It is located in
Jharkhand at an altitude of 4,431 ft above sea level. The hill is named after Parsvanath, the 23rd tirthankar.
Besides the famous Parasnath Temple, both
shwetambar and
digambar Jains have their temples on the hill. It is believed that out of 24 tirthankars, 20 of them attained nirvana here.
Parasnath Hill attracts many pilgrims from different parts of India and abroad. It is about 190 km from Ranchi. Parasnath Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
