Pao is a lesser-known tribe found in
Satna District of
Madhya Pradesh. They speak a language known as 'Pao', which is a member of the Sino-Tibetan language family.
Agriculture is the main occupation of this tribe, with about seventy three percent of the population involved in it. For additional income, they also engage in the raising of livestock, particularly horned cattle, buffalo, horses and mules.
Paos have their own secretive customs and regulations. They permits only the endogamous (marriage only within the caste) marriage system. Virtually all members are Hindus. They worship Brahma, Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti.
