Panbari, an ancient town, is 18 km from
Dhubri, on the way to
Guwahati, in
Assam.
Panbari is famous as home to the oldest mosque of the state. It is thought to have built by Mirjumla, the Mughal Governor of Bengal, who invaded Assam in 1662. This majestic structure, situated by the
National Highway 31, is a three-domed one that exemplifies the exquisite craftsmanship of the Mughal era. A massive wall along with a large and deep well, situated 0.5 km south of the NH and 7 km from west of Panbari, is another spot worth visiting. They date back to the 17th century.
