Palyul Choekhorling Monastery, also known as Nyingmapa Buddhist Monastery, is situated at
Bir, in
Kangra District of
Himachal Pradesh. Established in 1980 by Venerable Rigo Tulku Rinpoche, it is one of the largest monasteries in India.
Palyul Choekhorling Monastery is home to around 107 monks from different places such as Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh and Tibet. The monastery offers free education, accommodation, clothing, medical care and food for all the monks studying here. Their nine year course covers the whole doctrine of Buddhism, the Sutra and the Tantra teachings in general, the nine Yanas (parts) of Nyingmapa and the entire teachings of Buddhism. The monastery has a carpet center; an appliqué center and a small tailoring center.
