Pai Majai, the traditional dance form of the
Dimasa tribe of
Assam, is a medium of expressing gratitude to god.
As is the norm with most tribes, the main source of livelihood of these people is agriculture. With the prosperity of the tribe depending on a good harvest, the people perform a dance for thanking the lord. Following a successful reap of crops the people gather together to perform the Pai Majai dance. This is a community dance with no bar on the age or sex of the participants.
