Oyyavanda Perumal Temple




Oyyavanda Perumal Temple is located at Tiruvithuvakottu, 16 km from Shoranur, in Palakkad District. Tiruvithuvakottu is also known as Tiruvichikkodu or Tiruvinjikkodu.

The temple complex consists of the shrines of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The sanctum for Vishnu is placed behind the Shiva sanctum. Belief has it that sage Ambarishan attained mukthi at this place.

Legend tells that Lord Vishnu appeared in four forms on the four sides of the temple as requested by his devotee, Ambarishan. All the four forms were said to have been worshipped by the Pandavas. The idol in the center was worshipped by Yudhishtara, one on the western side by Arjuna, idol on the left side by Bhima, the one on the right side by Nakul and Sahadeva.
