Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD) was established in 1989, in
Guwahati,
Assam. This autonomous organization is controlled by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR),
New Delhi. Its main objective is to undertake, aid, promote and coordinate research on problems and processes of social transformation and development of Assam and other states of North-East India. It also aims to contribute to the formulation of strategies and programs for speedier regional development.
OKDISCD conducts ten to fifteen one-year fellowships in various social science disciplines, Ph D program, research methodology courses, seminars and workshops. For Research fellowship program post-graduation is required. For Ph D program the minimum qualification is a pass in National Eligibility Test conducted by Government of India. The Institute is a recognized research centre of Dibrugarh University.
Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development has so far completed research in population studies, tribal studies, resource studies, women studies, ecology and environment, ethnicity, politics, and south-east Asian studies. The institute has a well stocked library with foreign and Indian journals, news papers and magazines.
