Odam is a special type of boat used by the people of
Lakshadweep. The islanders are experts in constructing Odams. Indigenous materials such as wood of breadfruit tree or coconut wood, twisted
coir, coconut ropes, oil of fish and crabs are used.
Odams are of various sizes and shapes, built to carry about 70 to 400 tons of cargo. They are mostly used by the fishermen. With the arrival of mechanized boats, Odams are now gradually declined.
