Nowgong, also spelt Naogaon, lies near the north-western border of Madhya Pradesh with the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is about 25 km north-west of Chhatarpur.
In pre-independence days, it was a civil center and headquarters town of East India Company. Now, it is a major agricultural distribution center in the state.
