North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is an autonomous institute established by Government of India in 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983.
Although there are four medical colleges in Assam and Manipur, there is a high shortage of specialist medical graduates in the North East when compared with the other parts of the country. A super-specialty referral hospital with 500 beds and user-friendly-patient-care system and state-of-the-art technology is attached.
