Nikumbala Kshetram is located in Vanur taluk, near
Tindivanam, on the road to
Pondicherry in
Viluppuram District,
Tamil Nadu. The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Sakthi, also called Prathyankara Devi. According to Hindu mythology, Prathyankara Devi was emerged from the third eye of Sarabeswarar, a manifestation of
Lord Shiva, with 1,000 faces of lions, 1,000 hands and with a blood-stained protruding tongue. The deity of the temple was installed by Nadathur Janardhana Swami, a well known saint. The Kumbabishekam festival is celebrated with gaiety and fanfare by the devotees.
