Ngagyur Nyingma Institute (Shedra), a charitable learning center, is situated at
Bylakuppe in
Mysore District. It was established by Drubwang Penor Rinpoche in 1978. Its aim is to conserve and propagate the teachings of
Buddha and Nyingma tradition.
Presently, it is the largest Tibetan monastic center of Buddhist education and provides accommodation for nearly five hundred monks. The institute attracts hundreds of scholars from different Buddhist centers because of its growing reputation as an up-to-date and lively school of advanced Buddhist studies and Tibetan literature. The courses offered are nine years undergraduate and three years PhD training.
