Delhi is an important market area. Spanning over an area of 43.65 acres, it is the biggest fruit and vegetable market in Asia. It has acquired the status of a national distribution center for fruits like apple, banana, orange, mango and vegetables like potato, onion, garlic and ginger.
This market was established in the year 1977 by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). In order to safeguard the interests of the producers, sellers and consumers heavy regulation is implemented.
The market area currently hosts more than 30,000 retail vendors. Nearly 3,000 truckloads of fruits and vegetables are traded here daily.
