Neellivaneswarar Temple




Neellivaneswarar Temple is also known as Arulmigu Viswanathar Temple. It is situated at Thirupaingili, about 20 km north-west of Tiruchirapalli. Plantain tree is worshiped here and poojas are preformed to the tree. There are many stone inscriptions in this temple. There are no separate navagraha shrines but the steps leading to the main shrine are said to represent the navagrahas. The temple contains the idol of goddess Vishalakshi/ Neellnedunkannammal. The main festival celebrated is the Karthikai Deepam. The statue of sudha mahamunivar is situated on the outer premises of the temple. The shrine of Lord Vishnu named senthamarikanan lies inside the temple.
