In Hindu religion, Navagrahas represents the nine important celestial bodies, which are believed to be the agents of ‘time eternal’. It is believed that these ‘grahas’ influence the events and lives of an individual.
The Navagraha Homa is performed to appease Navagrahas in order to correct horoscopic doshas (problems) and to reduce the negative effects of planets. One can identify, which graha is influencing him from his Janma Patri (horoscope) and perform the puja for that particular graha.
Performing Navagraha Homa is very auspicious. Main offerings include sesame seeds, rice or any of the 'nine grains'. To ward off Sani Dosha lighting lamps with sesame oil or seeds on Saturdays is considered important. Thil (sesame) rice and
Payasam are also offered to Navagrahas.
