Nauchandi Mela

Nauchandi Mela is an annual fair held at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. The fair was started way back in 1672. In the beginning, it was single-day affair with cattle trading as the main activity. The fair now lasts over a month. Cattle trading has been replaced by other activities ranging from the religious to the commercial.

Nauchandi Mela is a symbol of communal harmony with equal participation from both Hindus and Muslims. Shopkeepers from all over Uttar Pradesh and Delhi put up stalls in the fair. The fair offers various kinds of merchandise, entertainments and food. The thousand-odd stalls of Nauchandi Mela welcomes over 50,000 visitors per day.
