Nattrunaiappar Temple




Nattrunaiappar Temple is located at Tirunanipalli, 13 km northeast of Mayuram railway station, in Nagapattinam District. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main deity of the temple is Nattrunaiappar along with Goddess Malaianmadandai. There is a 16 pillared Mukha mandapam in the temple where excellent sculptural work can be seen. Among them are Ardhanareeswarar in the toranam over Lingodbhavar, Dancing Kali in the toranam over Brahma, and Nataraja (Urdhva Tandavam) over Durga. Inscriptions of from the period of Raja Raja Chola are also found in the temple. Tiruvenkaadu temple and the Tirunangoor Vaishnava Divya Desam are nearby.
