Rajasthan is home to many nomadic communities and prominent among them is the Nat community. The members of this community follow the Hindu religion. They are traditionally street acrobats. They travel from place to place to perform various circus tricks and acrobatics. Usually the whole family is involved in the act.
The Nat community is famous for its rope dance. Long bamboo poles are fixed on the ground between which a rope is tied. An artist performs various balancing act and acrobatics on this rope, while other members of the family sing and provide the accompanying music.
