Established in 1978, National Institute of Hydrology at
Belgaum is an autonomous society under the control of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. The Institute has carried out research studies in hydrological problems associated with the hard rock areas in the country. The areas covered include the states of
Karnataka,
Maharashtra,
Madhya Pradesh,
Andhra Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu. The centre is equipped with soil testing and water quality laboratories. The institute also manages two automatic weather stations at Nagargalli (Barchi catchment) and Halkarni (Ghataprabha representative basin).
