National Gallery of Portraits is located at Sector 17B in
Chandigarh. Opened in 1977, the gallery showcases portraits of Indian freedom fighters, rare documents, and recordings of the voices of 125 prominent figures of India's Independence movement including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. The gallery features around 1066 photographs plus facsimiles of original writings, sculptures and ceramic murals.
National Gallery of Portraits has a library about 1300 books on India’s freedom struggle.
The gallery is open from 09:00 to 17:00 hrs on all days except Saturday, Sunday and official holidays.
