Established in 1957 at
New Delhi, National Book Trust is an autonomous body of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It owes its birth to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
The trust publishes a wide variety of books ranging from the works of fiction to books on medical sciences, and other information material for the general reader including books on different facts of the country. It has published around 13,000 titles, which consist of originals, reprints and translations in English and the Indian languages. selected titles for children have been translated into
Bhili, Gandi,
Santhali and some north-eastern languages, such as Ao Naga, Garo,
Khasi and
Mizo.
National Book Trust organizes book fairs and exhibitions throughout the country.
