Nasir-ud-din Mahmud was crowned the Sultan of
Delhi by the Amirs and Maliks owing to the inability of Sultan Masud Shah, the nephew of
Razia Sultan. He was the youngest son of
IItutmish, and ruled Delhi for over 25 years.
The Sultan spent most of his time in prayers, and his minister and father-in-law, Ghiyas-ud-din Balban , controlled the country. After Mahmud’s death in 1266, the power was taken over by Balban, who in turn was an able administrator.
