Narayanagiri, one of the lesser known hill forts in
Karnataka, is located at
Jalamangala in
Bangalore Rural District. It has a height of around 3,845 ft. Crowned by a Laxmi-Narayana temple, the surroundings of this hill fort has many highlights such as massive rock faces, small ponds, numerous caves and lush green forest.
The entire hill is fortified and one can see the remains of a fort wall almost encircling the top of the hill completely. The temple, devoted to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, made of shiny black granite commands reverence to the pilgrims. This temple opens only on Saturdays. The hill can be explored through an irregular footpath in the lower parts and rough steps.
