Naranthal Temple

Naranthal Temple is situated on the old road to Muzaffarabad in Naranthal village, Jammu and Kashmir. The temple dates back to the late medieval period, around the 12th century.

The specialty of the temple is its roof which consists of a single plain pyramid with a circular mortice in the center. The ceiling is similar in structure with that of Narastan temple and the Fathgarh temple. The walls of the cellar are carried up vertically until they reach the level of the eaves. The pyramidal roof itself from there forms the ceiling. It is believed that the temple stood in a tank. There is a spring nearby.

Large parts of the temple have sunk into the ground in the course of its long existence. The entrance of this temple is through an eastern arched entrance.

Naranthal Temple can be approached from Baramulla (about 4 km) by road. This temple is more or less in a dilapidated state. The nearest airport is Srinagar Airport and the railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
