Naikar Kali is a popular dance among the tribes in
Wayanad and
Malappuram districts. It is conducted as pooja to family deities and during marriages. The naikars (dancers) begin their performance when the instruments (
Thappu and
Kuzhal) start playing. With jingling anklets round their legs, the naikars dance round in clockwise and anti-clockwise movements to the accompaniment of the instruments.
