Nahari is a lesser-known tribe found in the states of
Madhya Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh and
Orissa. They are primarily settled in the districts of
Raipur,
Bilaspur and
Sambalpur.
Though they are small in population yet Naharis retain their specific lifestyle and culture. They follow the basic Hindu customs and traditions. Naharis speak a language that is a member of Indo-Aryan language family. They permit endogamous (marriage only within the caste) marriage system.
Naharis earn their livelihood mainly from agriculture. Some people also engage in the raising of livestock.
