Located 8 km north-east of
Karimnagar, Nagunur is a historic village in
Karimnagar District of
Andhra Pradesh. The inscriptions revealed from the site state that it was an important political and religious center in medieval times. A cluster of ruined temples erected during the Kalyani,
Chalukya and Kakatiya periods can be seen here.
The most important and the biggest of the temples is a triple-shrine which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated on an upapitha and is alluring with a hall and a porch on the northern side. The door frames and beams resting on the central pillars in the hall are graced with the sculptured images of gods and goddesses and scenes such as musicians playing Mridangam and other instruments.
