Nagpur General Post Office (GPO) is one of the major post offices in
Maharashtra. This marvelous model of British architecture is located at Civil Lines in
Nagpur City. Nagpur GPO is fully computerized and it offers facilities such as speed post, registered post, e-post, e-bill post, parcel, insurance, telegraph, philatelic bureau, Western Union Money Transfer Scheme and money exchange.
Nagpur General Post Office functions in a double storied building, situated on 9.5 acre of land. The construction of the building started in 1916-17 and was completed in 1920-21. Fine edged brick walls, strong lime concrete columns and beams, and wooden ceiling with roof tiles make the building magnificent. The main building has big verandahs and its beautiful tower stands on 12 columns, and comes with a big clock. There is a well maintained garden in front of the building.
On February 1994, the Government of India declared the building as a national heritage monument.
