A well know wrestling style, Naga Wrestling was earlier used for settling disputes and strong men were chosen for bouts. This wrestling style is popular among the
Angami, Chakesang and
Zeliang Naga tribes. Today, this style is protected by the Nagaland Wrestling Association (N W A) which is affiliated to the Wrestling Federation of India. Wrestling competitions are organized from village to state level, and the wrestling season starts from December and last till March.
