Sardar Vallabhai Patel's birthplace, Nadiad is located in
Kheda District of
Gujarat. It is around 45 km south of
Ahmedabad and around 20 km north of
Anand.
During the 19th century, the town was blessed with some of the greatest writers and intellectual of the time. It was the home town of Govardhanram Tripathi, the author of the epic Gujarati novel 'Saraswatichandra.' The residence of Govardhanram has been preserved and is one of the important destinations in the town. Sanatram Mandir, noted for its carvings, is an important shrine in the town.
Nadiad is an important commercial and industrial center is the state. It also houses some of the most prominent hospitals and education institutions of repute.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is the nearest airport. Nadiad Junction Railway Station is on the Ahmedabad – Anand rail route.
