Naadi Shastra is a system of prediction followed in
Tamil Nadu, south India, for over 4000 years. It is believed to predict the past, present, and future of an individual. The treatises of Naadi Shastra were earlier written on palm leaf scrolls, in
Sanskrit. During the 9th century, these scrolls were translated into the south Indian languages
Tamil and
Telugu, by the kings of Tanjore.
The Naadi Shastra grantha (manual) is divided into 16 chapters, each dealing with different aspects of prediction, like marriage, wealth, profession, and luck.
The palm leaves used in Naadi Shastra are still preserved in the Saravasti Mahal library of Tanjore, Tamil Nadu.
