Mumbai General Post Office is situated on St Georges Road, just behind the
Victoria Terminus. Its architecture represents Indo-Saracenic style, and the dome is modeled on the
Gol Gumbaz in
Bijapur. John Begg was the designer of this building and it was completed in 1909. The marble topped tables, high vaulted ceilings and sweeping staircases inside this building testify the wealth and power of the Imperial British rule in India.
Mumbai General Post Office is the largest GPO in India and it employs more than 2000 workers. Available facilities are speed post, registered post, e-post, e-bill post, parcel and insurance services. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the nearest airport.
