Mukkurthi Peak and National Park




Mukkuruthi Peak and National Park, is situated 40 km from Ooty at an altitude of about 8,031 ft. A part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the park is home to Nilgiri tahr, gaur, lion tailed macaques, common and Nilgiri langur, sambhar, chital, giant squirrel, wild boars, tigers, leopards, panthers, wild birds and a number of butterflies. On the top there is a small shrine dedicated to goddess Kali. Many perennial streams flow between these peaks falling into River Bhavani.

February to May and September to November is the best time to visit. Special permission from the Forest Authorities is required for the visit. Club, Raj Bhavan, St Stephen's Church, Kandal Cross, Botanical Garden and Ooty Lake are the nearby attractions. The nearest airport is 105 km away, at Coimbatore. The nearest railway station is Ooty(40 km).
