Mukhavaranam (mask) is used in certain folk dances of
Kerala. It is usually carved out of soft wood and is an alternative for ‘Mukhamezhuthu.’ Red brick powder, charcoal and other natural substances are used to adorn the mask.
Mukhavaranam is widely used in Padayani, Theyyam, Poothanthira and Mariyattom.
