Monyu Asho Dance

Monyu Asho is an attractive dance form performed by the Phom tribe of Nagaland. It is generally performed during the Monyu Festival - the most popular and biggest festival celebrated by Phom tribe. Asho literally means dance.

In this dance the male dancers wear brass replicas of human heads as mementos of head-hunting, and carry guns to the dance and occasionally fire off blank shots, to make the dance more vigorous.
