Monastery 51 is located in the western gateway of the
Great Stupa of Sanchi. Built with flat bricks, the monastery has thick stone walls and 22 monastic cells. This historic structure was excavated in the 19th century and has been kept well preserved. The charred wood excavated indicate that the pillars and roofs of the monastery may have been built with wood.
Vidisha railhead is located about 10 km from here.
