Mlokom Yulo

Mlokom Yulo is a major festival of the Bangnis - one of the important tribes in Arunachal Pradesh. It falls during Bangni months of Lakhang and Leehar (March-April).

Mlokom Yulo is celebrated for a period of five to seven days depending upon the divination performed by the local priest. Mlokom Yulo -Nyengeng is the name of the place where the ritual is conducted. Villagers collect rice beer, rice powder, egg and silk cloth and purchase sacrificial animals such as mithun, cow and fowl the previous day.

Mlokom Yulo begins with worship in the name of God-Doni-Yulo. Kamio-Yulo is also worshipped on this occasion. Animals are sacrificed on the festival days. The omen of the festival is found out by examining the liver of the white cock after the prayers. The end of the festival is marked by the villagers observing taboo for five days during which they do not go out of the village. This is called Mlkom-Arina. Mlokom Yulo is celebrated by all alike irrespective of caste and creed.
