Formerly known as Lushai Hills, Mizo Hills is a mountain range in south-eastern
Mizoram and it forms part of the Indo-Burmese range of hills. It rises to about 7,000 ft, and the slopes are covered with thick evergreen forest containing timber and bamboo. The Mizo Hills consist of a belt of north-south trending ridges with intricate valleys. The Singla River originates from this hill.
The highest peak of Mizo hills, Phawngpui (also known as Blue Mountain) is a veritable garden of the arboreum and veitchianum species of rhododendron. The
Dampa Sanctuary of Mizoram, home to a variety of species such as swamp deer, tiger, leopard, elephant and hillock gibbon, is at the north-western tip of the Mizo hills.
