Mihir Sen

The first Asian who to swim across the English Channel



Mihir Sen was the first Asian who swam across the English Channel. He was born on November 16, 1930 in Purulia, West Bengal. By profession he was a lawyer. Later, he was taken to the field of sports, especially swimming.

Mihir Sen established the records of crossing the English Channel, Palk Strait, followed by Gibralter Dar-E-Daniyal, Wasphorus, and Panama.

In 1959, the government awarded him with Padmashree for his contribution as a swimmer. He also got Padmabhushan in 1967. Mihir Sen also earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. He died in 1997.
