Membas, inhabiting northern part of
West Siang District in
Arunachal Pradesh, are Buddhist by religion. Their houses are made of stone and wood. Almost each village has got a Gompa, which is presided over by a Lama.
Membas, who migrated from Tibet, are advanced in respect of agriculture and other aspects of material culture. Millet and maize are their staple food. They cultivate cotton and barley also. Polyandry is prevalent in the community.
