Mel Chittamur

Mel Chittamur is situated about 20 km from Tindivanam and 10 km east of Gingee in Viluppuram District of Tamil Nadu. It is the headquarters of Digambara sector in Tamil Nadu.

The place is famous for two delightful shrines situated here. One temple is dedicated to Parshwanath and the other is known as Mailanatha Temple. The latter temple was originally a large rock containing the rock-cut images of Bahubali, Parshwanath, Adinath, Mahavir and Ambika yakshi. Evidences reveal that the images are carved during the 9th century AD. The temple was rebuilt in 16th century and was renovated recently.
