Meda Dhatu (adipose tissue) is one among the seven
Dhatus in
Ayurveda. It originates from Medodhara kala and is found in the abdomen and bones.
The white colored Meda Dhatu is oily, heavy, macroscopic, slimy, soft, smooth and slightly dense tissue in character. Its important function is lubrication. It also strengthens the body as well as bones. Snayu (ligaments) are the associated tissues of Medha Dhatu. About 900 snayu is found in the human body. Sweda or sweat is the mala (waste product) of this dhatu.
