Hyderabad is the Mecca Masjid, which is considered as the biggest mosque in Hyderabad. Began in 1617 and completed in 1694, it took nearly 77 years to complete the construction.
This imposing structure has a huge courtyard, which can accommodate nearly 10,000 worshippers at a time. The roof of the main hall is supported by 15 arches, five on each of the three sides. The arches and doors are bedecked by the inscriptions from Quran. The main structure of the mosque is placed in between two octagonal columns. To the left side of the courtyard of the mosque, one can see a rectangular building which preserves the marble graves of Asaf Jahi rulers.
