Mawsynram

Mawsynram is a scenic village, located about 10 km from Cherrapunji, in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. It reported to be the wettest place in the world, with an annual rainfall of 11,872 mm (about 39 feet).

The prime attraction here is a beautiful natural Shivling located within a vast cave named 'Mawjymbuin'. This Shivling is the result of a giant stalagmite formation and a unique sight is the Shivling receiving steady drops of water from a stone formed like a breast. It is bathed all through the year by water dripping from an overhanging stalactite. Devotees, in large number, throng here per year.

Another remarkable attraction is Symper Rock - a unique loaf-shaped rocky dome, which is situated amid hillocks. It is a perfect base for trekking and one could get spectacular views of the surrounding hills, valleys, plains and fast moving rivers of Bangladesh from here. Mawsynram also boasts hot springs of sulfur water, believed to have curative properties.

Mawsynram can be approached from Shillong, 56 km south.
